WEEK 2-3: Framing & Storyboard
This week is Labour Day, May 1, so our lectures and exercises are posted online and we need to name the lens size for each shot.

Shots on pages 6-7

Question: Why the bottom shot IS NOT an O.S shot?
Fig 2.4 Medium Close Up Shot (MCU)(2.05.2024. - Week 2)

Answers:
Because it is not showing the point of view from the perspective of the foreground figure, this is an over-the-hip shot. An over-the-hip shot is similar to an over-the-shoulder shot, but an over-the-hip shot places the camera on the foreground figure's hip while the focal subject is in an acceptable plane of focus.

15 Page of Question:

15-2:What is depth of field?
Answers:  When you take a photo, the part of the photo between the nearest and farthest objects that can be clearly imaged is the depth of field. Of course, this part happens gradually, that is, a range from unclear to clear.

15-3:What is deep depth of field? Provide an image for explanation.
Answers:

16 Page of Question:

16-1:What is 180 degree rule (static screen direction)?
Answers:
The 180° rule applies to the relationship between one character and another character or object in all intra-pictorial spaces (right-left or left-right). The 180° rule is used to maintain consistency of screen orientation between one character and another in a given space.

16-2:What is continuity in cinematography?
Answers:
Continuity editing is an editing system used to maintain consistency of both time and space in the film. Continuity editing helps ground audiences in the reality of the film while establishing a clear and structured narrative.
The goal of continuity editing is to make the mechanisms of filmmaking invisible as to help the audience dismiss disbelief more easily.
Continuity editing, also referred to as three-dimensional continuity, is the predominant editing style among commercial Hollywood films.

16-3:Watch the video below. Does it adhere to the 180 degree rule?
Answers:
It doesn't fit, they don't face the direction of the screen together, but opposite each other.

17 Page of Question:

17-1:What is  dynamic screen direction?
Answers:
When shooting a video sequence of a person walking, running, biking, driving or otherwise traveling from one location to another, the direction the subject moves across the screen is far more important than the direction the subject actually travels in the real world. In fact, continuity of motion has very little to do with the direction a subject actually moves. Video producers must always be mindful of the fact that continuity of motion is all about the position of the camera in relation to a moving subject. Depending on where the video camera is positioned, a subject who is actually walking in a straight line can appear to change direction, and a person walking in various directions can appear to walk in a straight line.

Editing Exercise: Edting Practise 3 (Lalin)

I downloaded the video, images, SMS alerts and Storyboard locally and then edited it in Adobe Premiere Pro, the requirement was to be within 35s, so I sped up the video to ensure the coherent integrity of the video.

In terms of cultural studies, the film refers to several themes. For example, it discusses the female characters represented by Evelyn, who are trapped and at the same time unwilling to accept the ordinary life, and rebel in various realistic and unrealistic ways, highlighting the power of "she" as a female master; for example, the film compares the behaviours of the characters in the parallel universe and real life, and shows the spiritual crisis of self-identity and other-identity, which is experienced by Evelyn and all of her family members. Also, the film compares the behaviour of the characters in the parallel universe and in real life, showing the spiritual crisis of self-identity and other people's identity that Evelyn and all her family members have, and it also raises the issues of family of origin, parent-child relationship, intergenerational communication, and the difference between Eastern and Western education concepts from the tense relationship between Evelyn and her father and daughter.

REFLECTIONS
Experience:
During the exercise, I roughly connected how we make videos. We need a series of actions such as dubbing, music, color correction, etc. to serve the video in an attempt to achieve the final effect.

Observation:
During this period, I observed that these elements are all indispensable. Video is not just a video, it is made up of many things, especially the parts that need to be shot, which require multiple people to coordinate the matter.

Findings:
I found that cooperation and communication are the most important in making videos. A truly complete video requires the cooperation of many people. In our practice, we learned a lot about post-editing, which made us better understand video and sound. of production.
