REFLECTIONS
Experience: This semester of studying typography has
been an experience for me. This semester's assignments allowed me to delve
into various aspects of the world of typography, including type
representation, text formatting, and also typography. Although doing these
three tasks was difficult for me at first as I had not been exposed to
typography before and did not have much basic knowledge. We also studied
some typography theory during the semester, and each task in this module
had a different challenge, but relative to that, this semester also gave
me a lot, and it gave me a whole new knowledge that I can apply in my
daily life.
Observations: This module has helped us a lot from
learning and watching Mr.Vinod's videos, remembering a lot of basics,
terms, and rules etc. Through Mr.Vinod's feedback, it allowed us to be
more careful not to make the same mistakes and also learn some tips when
Mr.Vinod was sharing his typography. From inspiration to results. I learnt
that we must pay attention to the details and that in typography, details
affect the whole effect.
Findings: Before undertaking this semester, I thought that
typography was just words. But after studying this module, I think there
is a lot more to typography that we have to take our time and pay
attention to, it's not just about typography. During this semester I have
had the opportunity to really study typography and complete tasks that
have allowed me to apply my new found knowledge. We should need to be
patient and pay attention to detail. This module made me realise that
typography is not just about choosing beautiful fonts, it is also about
optimising the readability and comprehensibility of text.
FURTHER READINGS
Fig. 4.1
Typography is a constantly evolving discipline that provides a concise
and comprehensive overview of the information, vocabulary, tools, and
methods used in effective typography design practices.
This book has a total of 13 chapters, including the history of
typesetting and a series of content such as Anatomy, Legibility, and
Typographic Grid.
Chapter 4: The Typographic Grid
This chapter discusses the grid of typography, a grid is a skeletal
framework used by designers to organize information within a spatial
field.
BACKGROUND: The grid as we know it today is rooted in
the earliest written forms, from columnar cuneiform tablets impressed
by the Mesopotamians as early as 3000 BCE, to hieroglyphic writing on
papyrus.
STRUCTURE AND SPACE: Space is the common denominator for
all typographic communication.

MULTICOLUMN GRIDS: An elemental grid is based upon a Cartesian coordinate system of intersecting.
MODULAR GRIDS: The modular grid offers opportunities to
present more complex information with a high degree of
accuracy and clarity.

IMPROVISATIONAL STRUCTURES: Improvisational structures
evolve in response to the specific elements of information, as opposed
to modular grids, which are predetermined organizational devices.
